Many of its inhabitants are from the trans community and continue to face violence and discrimination in a region that accounts for three quarters of the world’s trans-related murders. Like the area it is located in, the family-run brothel Tabaco y Ron offers refuge to trans sex workers. Both young and old, the workers open up to filmmaker Carmen Oquendo-Villar, who weaves their stories into a fascinating and often moving tapestry of life.
